Series Introduction
Everyone desires breakthrough, but breakthrough rarely comes without effort.
In this series, Blueprint for Breakthrough, we are discovering God’s design for spiritual growth from the book of Hebrews.
In Part 1, Drawing the Line, we learned that breakthrough begins with:
- Alignment with God’s will
- Attention to God’s Word
- Approval from God’s Spirit
Today we continue with Work Through It, where we discover that breakthrough requires perseverance, obedience, and courage.

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone… that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

Sermon Introduction
The writer of Hebrews continues to point us toward Jesus Christ as the perfect example.
Jesus accomplished the greatest breakthrough in history—not by avoiding suffering, but by working through it.
Likewise, if we desire breakthrough in our lives, we must embrace God’s process instead of looking for shortcuts.
1. Do the Work
Scripture
“For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”
Hebrews 2:10 (NKJV)
Jesus completed every part of His assignment.
He lived a sinless life.
He endured rejection.
He suffered the cross.
He finished the work the Father gave Him to do.
There were no shortcuts.
Even in the Garden of Gethsemane, when Jesus prayed for another way, He surrendered Himself to the Father’s will:
“Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
Breakthrough always requires work.
Pastor Manuel reminds us:
“If breakthrough were easy, it would be called ‘walk-through.'”
God empowers us, but He still expects us to participate in the process.
Waiting on God does not mean doing nothing.
It means serving, growing, praying, obeying, and trusting while God prepares the breakthrough.
Supporting Scripture
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD… gives power to the weak… But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28–31 (NKJV)
Notice that God’s strength empowers us to run and walk.
He gives strength for the work.
Reflection Questions
- Am I expecting God to do what He has called me to do?
- Where have I been tempted to take shortcuts instead of trusting God’s process?
- What difficult assignment has God placed before me that requires perseverance?
Personal Challenge
Identify one area where you’ve been waiting for change without taking action. Ask God for strength, then take one practical step of obedience this week.
2. Work God’s Way
Scripture
“For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren.”
Hebrews 2:11 (NKJV)
Jesus has set believers apart.
We are different because we belong to Him.
Sanctification means being separated for God’s purposes.
The world says:
- Blend in.
- Follow the crowd.
- Compromise.
But God’s blueprint says:
Be holy.
Be faithful.
Be different.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people…”
I Peter 2:9–10 (NKJV)
Spiritual breakthrough happens when we stop trying to fit into the world and begin living according to God’s standards.
Areas Where We Must Work God’s Way
Breakthrough Faith
Faith sometimes requires standing alone.
Pastor Manuel shared the example of believers in Niger who courageously stood for Christ despite opposition.
Real breakthrough often begins when we stop seeking people’s approval and start seeking God’s approval.
Breakthrough Relationships
God calls us to build relationships differently.
Choose relationships that encourage your faith instead of weakening it.
Seek character before charisma.
Seek godliness before popularity.
Breakthrough Finances
God’s financial principles often differ from the world’s.
Practice stewardship.
Honor God with generosity.
Invest wisely.
Plan for the future.
Breakthrough Living
Live differently.
Speak differently.
Treat people differently.
Honor Christ in every area of life.
When we work God’s way:
- We invite the Holy Spirit’s power.
- We become witnesses to others.
- We experience favor that cannot be manufactured by human effort.
Reflection Questions
- In what area am I tempted to follow the crowd instead of Christ?
- Does my lifestyle reflect God’s values or the world’s priorities?
- How can I better represent Christ at home, work, school, or in my community?
Personal Challenge
Choose one area where God is calling you to live differently. Commit to honoring Him there even if it means standing alone.
3. Work Through Your Fears
Scripture
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hebrews 2:14–15 (NKJV)
Fear is one of Satan’s greatest tools.
Fear keeps people:
- From trying.
- From leading.
- From serving.
- From forgiving.
- From trusting God.
The writer reminds us that Jesus broke the power of death itself.
If Christ has defeated death, then we don’t have to live enslaved by fear.
Pastor Manuel shared the story of President Benjamin Harrison, who was so afraid of electricity in the White House that he often slept with the lights on because he was afraid to touch the switches.
Fear often causes us to live beneath what is available to us.
Some fear failure.
Some fear success.
Some fear criticism.
Some fear rejection.
But breakthrough belongs to those who trust God more than their fears.
Jesus Worked Through Every Obstacle
Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus kept working.
- At twelve years old, He was about His Father’s business.
- He healed the sick.
- He fed the hungry.
- He calmed the storm.
- He raised the fallen.
- He forgave sinners.
- He endured the cross.
- Even in death, He proclaimed victory.
Finally, on resurrection morning, His work was complete.
Because Jesus finished His work, we can continue ours.
Reflection Questions
- What fear has been holding me back?
- Have I allowed fear to stop me from obeying God?
- What opportunity has fear caused me to miss?
Personal Challenge
Name your greatest fear before God this week.
Then take one faith-filled step toward what God has called you to do.
Remember:
Faith moves forward even while fear is present.
Living the Blueprint
Breakthrough requires more than desire.
It requires work.
- Work with perseverance.
- Work God’s way.
- Work through fear.
God supplies the strength.
We supply the obedience.
When we faithfully do our part, God accomplishes what only He can do.
Weekly Application
This week ask yourself:
- Am I doing the work God has assigned me?
- Am I following God’s way instead of the world’s?
- What fear do I need to surrender to Christ?
Remember:
Good things come to those who work.
God gives strength—not so we can remain comfortable—but so we can fulfill His purpose.
Conclusion
Jesus is our greatest example of perseverance.
He never quit.
He never abandoned His assignment.
He never stopped working until redemption was complete.
Because He endured the cross…
We have forgiveness.
We have hope.
We have victory.
We have the power to keep working until God brings our breakthrough.
As Pastor Manuel reminds us throughout this message:
“God’s plan works.”
When we trust His process…
When we obey His Word…
When we keep working by faith…
Breakthrough is coming.
Invitation
God created you and loves you, but sin separates us from Him. Because of His great love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and rise again so that we might have eternal life.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, pray:
“God, thank You for creating me and loving me. I confess that I have sinned against You. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I confess Jesus as Lord of my life and Savior of my soul. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
