Series Introduction
Every breakthrough begins with a blueprint.
Whether we desire spiritual growth, stronger families, better health, financial stability, academic success, or professional advancement, lasting breakthrough does not happen by accident—it happens according to God’s design.
In this three-part series, we will study the book of Hebrews to discover God’s blueprint for breakthrough.
Today’s message is Drawing the Line.
Sermon Introduction
Our text begins with the word “Therefore.”
Whenever we see “therefore” in Scripture, we should ask, “What is it there for?”
Before giving us instructions in Hebrews 2, the writer first establishes the greatness of Jesus in Hebrews 1.
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son… having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

Because Jesus is superior to every prophet and every angel…
- Jesus is the Son of God.
- Jesus is the heir of all things.
- Jesus created the worlds.
- Jesus is the brightness of God’s glory.
- Jesus is the exact image of the Father.
- Jesus upholds all things by His powerful word.
- Jesus purged our sins.
- Jesus reigns at the Father’s right hand.
Therefore, we must respond differently.
The writer gives us three principles for creating a blueprint for breakthrough.
1. Alignment
Scripture
“Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”
Hebrews 2:1 (NKJV)
Everything begins with alignment.
The writer says we must pay careful attention to God’s truth so that we do not drift away.
Just as a blueprint requires every line to be properly aligned, our lives must remain aligned with Christ.
When Pastor Manuel worked as an engineering apprentice, he learned that one misplaced line on a power distribution blueprint could send electricity to the wrong location. One small mistake could affect every drawing that followed.
Spiritually, misalignment works the same way.
One compromise.
One unchecked habit.
One ignored conviction.
Eventually we begin drifting from God’s purpose.
Breakthrough begins when our beliefs, our actions, and God’s Word are all moving in the same direction.
Reflection Questions
- Where in my life am I drifting away from God’s truth?
- Are my daily decisions aligned with what I know God has spoken?
- What small compromise could eventually become a major detour?
Personal Challenge
This week, identify one area where your life is out of alignment with God’s Word. Pray, repent if necessary, and make one intentional change that brings you back into alignment with Christ.
2. Attention
Scripture
“For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation…”
Hebrews 2:2–3 (NKJV)
The writer reminds his readers that if people were expected to obey messages delivered through angels, how much more should we pay attention to the Gospel delivered by Jesus Himself.
Attention to detail matters.
While learning blueprint design, Pastor Manuel also had to learn every engineering symbol before making any changes.
He wasn’t allowed to edit a blueprint until he understood every symbol and every connection.
Likewise, God calls us to pay careful attention to every part of His Word.
We cannot choose only the parts we enjoy.
We cannot pursue God’s blessings while ignoring His commands.
We cannot desire breakthrough while neglecting obedience.
Spiritual maturity grows through careful attention to God’s truth.
Reflection Questions
- Am I studying God’s Word carefully or casually?
- What areas of obedience have I been neglecting?
- Have I been seeking God’s promises while ignoring His principles?
Personal Challenge
Spend time each day this week reading Scripture carefully. Ask God not only to help you understand His Word, but also to obey what He reveals.
3. Approval
Scripture
“God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will.”
Hebrews 2:4 (NKJV)
God confirmed Jesus through miracles, signs, wonders, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus did not simply claim authority.
God approved Him.
Pastor Manuel shared that while working on engineering blueprints, he could make corrections on the computer, but he could never authorize the final blueprint.
Only the licensed engineer could approve and sign it.
Likewise, our plans are not complete until they receive God’s approval.
Many people try to force breakthroughs through their own strength.
But God’s breakthroughs come through God’s approval.
When our plans align with His will, He opens doors no one can shut.

“Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father…’ Jesus said to him… ‘Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.'”

“…Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.”
Luke 7:20–23 (NKJV)
These miracles confirmed that Jesus alone was God’s approved Messiah.
Reflection Questions
- Am I asking God to approve my plans, or am I asking Him to bless plans I created without Him?
- Is my breakthrough motivated by God’s purpose or my personal ambition?
- Am I seeking God’s approval more than people’s approval?
Personal Challenge
Before making any major decision this week, stop and ask:
“Lord, is this Your plan or mine?”
Commit yourself to following God’s direction even when it requires patience.
Living the Blueprint
The blueprint for breakthrough is simple but powerful:
- Stay aligned with Christ.
- Pay careful attention to God’s Word.
- Seek God’s approval above everything else.
God’s plan still works.
- Honor works.
- Holiness works.
- Forgiveness works.
- Grace works.
- Mercy works.
- Worship works.
- Prayer works.
- Faith works.
- Fasting works.
Most importantly…
The blood of Jesus still works.
It still saves.
It still forgives.
It still transforms.
It still brings breakthrough.
Weekly Application
This week, ask yourself:
- Where do I need greater alignment with Christ?
- What truth has God been calling me to obey?
- Am I waiting for God’s approval before moving forward?
Remember:
When you get in alignment with God’s will, He aligns your path.
When you pay attention to God’s Word, He prepares you for breakthrough.
When you seek God’s approval, He authorizes what only He can accomplish.
Invitation
God created you and loves you, but our sins separate us from Him. Because of His great love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and rise again so that we might have eternal life.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, pray:
“God, thank You for creating me and loving me. I confess that I have sinned against You. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I confess Jesus as Lord of my life and Savior of my soul. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
