Hope Forward
Part 2: How to Cultivate Hope
Primary Scripture:
Romans 5:1–5 (NKJV)
“Now hope does not disappoint…”
— Romans 5:5 NKJV
Series Reminder
There is always hope in God.
There is hope in Jesus.
This series helps you carry a living hope into a new season.
Hope forward means you keep growing even when life presses hard.
Sermon Big Idea
Hope does not grow by accident.
Hope grows when you stand in grace, learn from struggle, and trust God’s presence.
Sermon Point 1: Rejoice in Hope
Scripture:
Romans 5:1–2 (NKJV)
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”
Teaching Notes
Justified means God has declared you righteous.
He settled the case through Jesus.
Your hope does not rest on how good you perform.
It rests on what Christ has done.
Through Jesus, you have peace with God.
You also have access to God.
Grace is where you stand.
Hope grows when you remember who opened the door.
God invites you into His presence.
You can pray.
You can worship.
You can trust Him with your life.
Reflection Questions
- What does it mean to you that God has already declared you righteous?
- Where do you struggle to feel worthy of God’s grace?
- How does knowing you have access to God shape your hope?
Personal Challenge
Spend time this week thanking God for access, not asking for anything.
Let gratitude strengthen your hope.
Sermon Point 2: Build Up Your Hope
Scripture:
Romans 5:3–4 (NKJV)
“We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
Teaching Notes
Trouble teaches what comfort cannot.
Looking back shows how God carried you.
You are still here.
That matters.
Perseverance grows when you choose to keep trusting God.
Character forms when faith holds under pressure.
Hope develops over time.
It grows as you see God bring you through again and again.
Your past struggles shaped your present strength.
God used them to build you.
Reflection Questions
- What difficult season helped shape your faith?
- Where did you see God show up when things were heavy?
- How has perseverance changed you?
Personal Challenge
Write down one hardship God brought you through.
Thank Him for what that season produced in you.
Sermon Point 3: Hope With Confidence
Scripture:
Romans 5:5 (NKJV)
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit…”
Teaching Notes
Hope in God holds steady.
God does not fail.
Sometimes God redirects what you want.
He still gives what you need.
God’s love fills your heart through the Holy Spirit.
You are not alone.
The Spirit comforts you.
The Spirit guides you.
The Spirit stays with you.
Confidence grows when you trust God’s love and presence.
He walks with you through every season.
Reflection Questions
- Where have you felt God’s presence in hard moments?
- What fears try to weaken your confidence?
- How does knowing the Spirit lives in you strengthen your hope?
Personal Challenge
When fear rises, pause and pray.
Acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence and ask for peace.
