HOPE Forward Part 1 Sermon Notes

Part 1: How to Hope in Hopeless Situations

Scripture Focus:
Romans 4:16–18, 19–22 (NKJV)

“Who, contrary to hope, in hope believed…”
— Romans 4:18 NKJV

Series Purpose

Life has pressed many of us to the edge. Loss. Delay. Disappointment.
This series points you forward with a living hope rooted in God.

Hope forward means you keep moving even when circumstances resist you.

Sermon Big Idea

You can hope in hard places because God keeps His promises.
Hope grows when you act, trust, and rest in who God is.

Sermon Point 1: Exercise Your Hope

Scripture:
Romans 4:19 (NKJV)

“And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead… and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.”

Teaching Notes

Abraham faced facts that spoke against the promise.
Age. History. Physical limits.

He knew the situation.
He kept moving anyway.

Hope requires movement.
It grows when you step toward what God said.

Abraham did not wait for conditions to change.
He acted in faith while trusting God with the outcome.

Hope works best when paired with effort.

Reflection Questions

  • Where have you stopped moving because the situation feels final?
  • What promise from God are you still holding?
  • What step can you take this week toward that promise?

Personal Challenge

Choose one action that moves you toward what you are praying for.
Write it down. Do it this week.

Sermon Point 2: Strengthen Your Hope With Faith

Scripture:
Romans 4:20 (NKJV)

“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.”

Teaching Notes

Abraham trusted a promise that came from relationship.
God had already proven faithful.

Faith gives structure to hope.
It gives weight to what you cannot see.

Supporting Scripture:
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith keeps hope steady.
Praise strengthens faith.

Abraham gave God glory while waiting.
Worship kept his hope alive.

Reflection Questions

  • What promise from God are you standing on?
  • How do you respond when waiting gets hard?
  • How can worship shape your hope this week?

Personal Challenge

Spend time praising God before asking Him for anything.
Let worship reset your perspective.

Sermon Point 3: Anchor Your Hope in God

Scripture:
Romans 4:21–22 (NKJV)

“And being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform…”

Teaching Notes

Abraham trusted the Promise Giver.
He trusted God’s ability.

Hope cannot rest on people, resources, or circumstances.
Those things shift.

Hope holds when anchored in God’s power and character.

God keeps His word.
God has the strength to perform what He promises.

When your hope rests in Him, it holds steady.

Reflection Questions

  • Where have you placed your hope recently?
  • What has disappointed you before?
  • What changes when your hope rests in God alone?

Personal Challenge

Release one expectation you placed on a person or situation.
Place that expectation in God’s hands through prayer.

Key Takeaways

  • Hope grows when you move toward God’s promise
  • Faith gives hope strength and direction
  • Trust in God keeps hope secure

Closing Encouragement

You can hope forward because God is able.
He still gives life where things seem finished.
