Lent Prayer Emphasis 2026

Lent is a 40 day period of fasting leading up to Easter. Lent begins on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 and ends on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Fasting takes place Monday – Saturday, but not on Sundays. During this time of reflection, we pray, read the scriptures, and seek a closer connection with God. We fast to examine our hearts and our relationship with God so that we can remove those things that would separate us from Him.

Lent Prayer Emphasis

Theme: All Things New

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
— II Corinthians 5:17

During Lent we slow down, seek God, and examine our hearts. We fast, pray, and follow the Bible reading plan together. These five prayer focuses will help us move toward the declaration:

“I’m becoming who God wants me to be.”

1. Prayer for Deeper Trust in God (BELIEVE)

Lent invites you to release control and trust God more fully. Pray for ears that hear God clearly and hearts ready to respond in worship.

Pray that our church will:

  • Grow in daily prayer and Scripture reading
  • Trust God during uncertainty and transition
  • Respond to God with genuine worship
  • Follow the Holy Spirit with courage and obedience

Personal prayer prompts

  • Lord, help me trust Your timing.
  • Help me hear Your voice above every distraction.
  • Strengthen my faith in this season of fasting.

2. Prayer for Emotional and Spiritual Healing (BELONG)

Many people carry hidden wounds. Lent gives us space to bring pain to God and ask for healing. Pray for hearts to mend and relationships to be restored.

Pray that God will heal:

  • Grief, anxiety, and lingering hurt
  • Broken relationships and family tension
  • Church hurt and spiritual discouragement
  • Shame, guilt, and past mistakes

Personal prayer prompts

  • Lord, heal the places in me that still hurt.
  • Help me forgive others and forgive myself.
  • Create an environment at Lily where people feel safe to heal.

3. Prayer for Unity and Healthy Relationships (BELONG)

God is forming a church family where people feel valued, honored, and connected. Pray for unity across generations and life stages.

Pray that our church will:

  • Honor God in how we treat one another
  • Build meaningful friendships and prayer partnerships
  • Welcome new members with warmth and care
  • Grow as a multigenerational family of faith

Personal prayer prompts

  • Lord, help me honor others in my words and actions.
  • Show me who needs encouragement this week.
  • Use me to help someone feel they belong.

4. Prayer for Spiritual Growth and Personal Transformation (BECOME)

Lent reminds us that God is still shaping us. Pray for growth in character, habits, and daily obedience.

Pray that we will become:

  • More patient and more compassionate
  • More disciplined in prayer and Scripture
  • More willing to serve and give
  • More committed to living like Christ every day

Personal prayer prompts

  • Lord, shape me into the person You created me to be.
  • Help me represent You in my home, job, and community.
  • Show me one area where You want me to grow.

5. Prayer for Community Outreach and Witness (BECOME)

God calls us to shine light beyond the church walls. Pray for our city of Tarrant and surrounding communities.

Pray that Lily Baptist Church will:

  • Serve neighbors with love and compassion
  • Reach people who feel far from God
  • Be known as a church that cares for the community
  • Share the gospel with boldness and kindness

Pray specifically for:

  • Local schools and families
  • Those experiencing poverty or loneliness
  • People searching for hope and purpose

Personal prayer prompts

  • Lord, open my eyes to people who need hope.
  • Give me courage to share Your love.
  • Use our church to make a difference in our city.
